MIRI: Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd has marked a significant milestone in advancing Miri’s tourism-led urban development agenda with the successful completion of a high-level engagement programme involving Thinker Cultural Tourism Operator for Water Theme Parks, China, a recognised developer and operator of large-scale integrated water-themed and cultural tourism destinations.
The programme reflects Imasa Dinasti’s proactive strategy to attract credible global partners and position Miri as a viable destination for next-generation, experience-driven tourism developments under the Kenyalang Smart City initiative.
The visit commenced with a strategic engagement session at the Kenyalang Smart City Site Office, convening key public and private sector stakeholders to ensure early alignment on development priorities. Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, the Sarawak Tourism Board, Miri Port Authority and Miri City Council, as well as industry players from the hospitality and travel sectors.
The session enabled focused discussions on Miri’s regulatory landscape, planning framework, infrastructure readiness and investment environment, providing the visiting delegation with a comprehensive understanding of the city’s development direction and long-term growth ambitions.
Building on this engagement, Imasa Dinasti facilitated a formal courtesy call between the Thinker Cultural Tourism Operator delegation and Yang Berhormat Adam Yii Siew Sang, Mayor of Miri City Council. The meeting served as an important platform to establish strategic rapport with the city’s leadership and to explore the potential for large-scale cultural tourism and leisure investments, including an integrated water theme park development with supporting hospitality components.
The discussions highlighted Miri’s growing regional catchment, strong market fundamentals and future connectivity potential, positioning the city as a regional tourism draw rather than a purely local destination.
The mayor reaffirmed the city council’s commitment to supporting sustainable, well-planned investments that deliver long-term economic value and community impact.
As part of their regional assessment, the delegation also undertook benchmarking visits to existing theme parks in Brunei Darussalam. Observations from these visits underscored the opportunity for Miri to differentiate itself through higher standards of design, safety, technology and visitor experience, aligned with current international best practices in water-themed attractions.
Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd views this engagement as a foundational step towards attracting quality, tourism-led investments that can catalyse broader economic activity and urban transformation.
As master developer of Kenyalang Smart City, the company remains committed to bridging global expertise with local aspirations, ensuring that future developments are commercially viable, socially responsible and aligned with long-term sustainability objectives.
