
The masterplan for Sarawak’s Kenyalang Smart City (KSC) was formally unveiled with a groundswell of support from an audience of senior local politicians standing shoulder to shoulder with international and local captains of industry.
The development, to be located adjacent from the campus to Curtin University (Malaysia), was the focus of the Kenyalang Smart City Summit, an invitation only event framed by six notable speakers including keynote speaker, Professor Dong Jingcheng, President of Fudan University Institutes of Integrative Medicine.
Highlights of the KSC Summit included:
- Guest of Honour, YB Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui-Hian, Deputy Premier & Min. For Public Health, Housing & Local Government presiding over the event;
- Formal unveiling of the Kenyalang Smart City masterplan;
- Eight corporations signed MOUs with the developer of Kenyalang Smart City
Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd, the developer of the Kenyalang Smart City, signed memorandums with:
- Fudan University Institutes of Integrative Medicine
- China Broadnet Hunan Network Corporation
- China Investment Financial Holdings
- Envision Energy Group
- China Construction Development (Malaysia)
- Sinohydro Bureau 12 Corporation
- ESG Malaysia
- GreenRE
In addition to the Deputy Premier, the commercial signings were also witnessed by:
- YB Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah (Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts Sarawak, Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak);
- YB Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin (Minister for Transport Sarawak);
- YB Datuk Gerawat Gala (Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Dept - Labour, Immigration & Project Monitoring);
- YB Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew (Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts);
- His Excellency Xing Wei Ping (Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching);
- His Excellency Raden Sigit Witjaksono (Consul General of Indonesia in Kuching); and
- YB Adam Yii Siew Sang (Mayor of Miri).
In a Facebook post, Dr Sim expressed his enthusiasm following the day’s activities, calling the Kenyalang Smart City “the first-of-its-kind development by Miri architect Teo Ah Khing.”
Dr Sim also singled out his particular interest in the involvement of Professor Dong Jingcheng who oversees Fudan University Institutes of Integrative Medicine saying, “Very excited with one of the MOUs – Fudan University’s Fudan Institutes of Integrative Medicine (traditional and modern medicine), which plans to establish the institutes first Southeast Asia branch here. Potentially, one day this may lead to a Sarawak branch campus of Fudan University (one of the world’s top universities from Shanghai).”
