China’s famed Fudan Institutes of Integrative Medicine is set to establish a temporary campus in Miri city while a permanent facility is constructed at the planned Kenyalang Smart City (KSC).
The site selected for Fudan Institutes of Integrative Medicine is the old Miri City Council which will be upgraded in the first half of next year to meet its new requirements. In parallel, the KSC facility is expected to start construction in the second half of next year.
The facility at KSC will be constructed in a phased approach, adopting a temporary college to meet the initial teaching and scientific research needs and then gradually building a permanent comprehensive research institute.
This approach and timeline allow for improvements to be made to various facilities. It will also play a central role in upgrading regional education and healthcare.
The addition of the Fudan Institutes of Integrative Medicine will also have undoubted and undeniable benefits for the economy of the State of Sarawak and potentially the wider region of Borneo with the promotion of medical research and talent training, injecting new impetus into the local education system.
It will also drive Miri’s urban development and position the city as a talent hub to support established industries and to encourage new ones to Sarawak.
The 543-acre Sarawak Smart City (KSC) is located adjacent to Curtin University and is a new integrated development project covering business, industry, education and technology parks.
